CEO Corner: Simplifying Payments to Deliver Greater Value Sean CEO Corner October 22, 2026 As payment acceptance continues to evolve and embedded payments become an increasingly important driver of growth, one thing has become clear to me: it’s time to simplify payments to deliver a more sophisticated, valuable and sustainable experience. At Woodforest Acceptance Solutions (WAS), we continue to refine our integration playbook and ISV enablement process. Through our work with CRM platforms and vertically specialized software companies, we’ve improved the payment experience across a variety of environments. Just as importantly, we’ve learned that helping our partners select the right payment acceptance solution is every bit as important as the technology behind it. In card-present environments, we’re seeing growing demand for simplified devices—often referred to as a puck. In many cases, the software platform drives the merchant experience, while the payment device simply needs to securely and reliably capture the transaction. Introducing unnecessary functionality at the terminal can add complexity to implementation, complicate the merchant’s workflow and create additional service and support challenges. The result is more friction, not more value. The same principle applies to card-not-present acceptance. Checkout experiences should be designed around the needs of the merchant, the expectations of the customer and the specific requirements of the vertical. Adding unnecessary steps or functionality can create friction and negatively affect conversion. At the same time, simplicity cannot come at the expense of risk management, security or compliance. The objective is to make the experience as straightforward as possible while preserving the controls and capabilities necessary for sustainable growth. Our focus on the switch-to-issuer acquiring model reflects this same philosophy. By simplifying the underlying acquiring architecture, we can create a more direct and efficient foundation for payment acceptance. But we believe the opportunity extends beyond the processing model itself. It’s also about helping our ISV partners make better decisions about how payments are integrated, implemented and supported within their software environments. Ultimately, simplifying payments isn’t about doing less. It’s about eliminating unnecessary complexity so that we can do more of what matters: improve the merchant experience, strengthen our partners’ value propositions, reduce operational friction and create more sustainable economics for everyone involved. At WAS, our goal is to make payments simpler on the surface, more sophisticated underneath and more valuable to the businesses that depend on them. That’s how we believe embedded payments will continue to evolve—and how we intend to help our partners lead that evolution. What this means: For ISVs: Less integration and implementation friction, with fewer unnecessary hardware and support dependencies. For merchants: A payment experience aligned with their vertical, workflows and customers. For WAS: A more scalable acquiring model that supports sustainable economics while retaining the risk, compliance and operational rigor required for growth. Ready to talk payments?
